World Constitution Day aims to raise awareness of the contribution that constitutions make to our society and to celebrate the diverse range of people that conceive, write, ratify, publish and amend constitutional charters worldwide. The day is held on the 1st of August each year, an ideal summer day conducive to gathering, and also in recognition of the anniversary of the creation of the Swiss Federal Charter, the Bundesbrief in 1291AD, kicking off one of the worlds longest running democracies.
This site will maintain information about this global project and tip off those wishing to organize events. Individual event organizers are encouraged to check back for event details. Event organizers can download a range of promotional collateral from the website including press releases for local media, tweetables, flyers and online banners. Event and brand logos will be made available. Use Hashtag #WorldConstitutionDay to tie in activity across social media platforms.
For professional constitutional advocates and leaders, World Constitution Day is an opportunity for the scholarly community to share in their mutual passion while preserving and promoting relationships, traditions and shared memories. Swing open the doors and have some fun while also educating those who attend.
World Constitution Day aims to create awareness and drive civic literacy while also improving the teaching of democracy, governing practices, liberty, freedom and culture and more generally, the "celebration of constitutions and the people who make it happen".
This event has been established by leaders in the world of constitution-writing, and is coordinated by the International Bundesbrief Society, a non-profit, 501c3 USA registered cultural charity which promotes democracy, constitutions and scholarship with their name taken from the original Swiss Federal Charter of 1291 (the Magna Carta of Switzerland) and who helps sponsor this centralized, organizing web site.
